The Little Mermaid

We finally made it over to the pottery place to pick up G's mermaid. Never mind that it's been a month since it's been fired. I was totally impressed with the way it came out. I know I've glazed some pottery in my day but it never came out this nicely. Ty says he's going to teach her calligraphy since she's an artist now. Apparently she needs to learn how to sign her name prettier. Gotta love Bullwinkle.

The Best Birthday Ever

Sometimes I think G gets lost in the shuffle, being number three out of four kids and so I wanted to make sure her birthday was as fantastic as she'd been imagining it would be. On her actual birthday she wanted a cake to take to school with her picture on it.

After school I took her to a pottery painting place which ended up being a total trip. The owner of the shop didn't acknowledge us when we walked in the door and when she finally did ask if we were there to paint and we said yes, she just waved her hand and said, "Go ahead." I had to ask her what specifically we were supposed to do as we'd never been there before. Ty had a couple of really good questions about the whole process and even though he stood next to her when he asked the questions, she completely ignored him. While we were painting she was talking to a guy about business being slow and barely making the rent and I could only think, "Gee I wonder why." (Insert sarcasm here) But we didn't let it ruin our fun and Grace painted a fantastic little mermaid. They've finished firing it and I'm going to go pick it up tomorrow.

She wanted ribs for dinner so my in-laws drove up and we met them at TGIFriday's for dinner where G had two orders of ribs. On the ride home she moaned that her tummy hurt. I guess so!

The next day we got a phone call from G's friend V. Her family had gotten their hands on some last minute tickets to see Monsters, Inc. On Ice and wanted to know if G could go along with them. I sent her with $40 - twenty for dinner and twenty for some sort of souvenir. She came home with $4 change and told me for dinner she'd had cotton candy, icees, popcorn, Sprite...

Then we planned her birthday party for today. She is always fascinated when I have my toenails done and since last summer she's said she wanted to have a pedicure for her birthday. We invited two girls from her class (V and C) to come to the mall with us and have a pedicure party. I realized afterward that they were like Charlie's Angels or something - blonde, redhead and brunette. I know there are a ton of pictures but they were just so cute and the people in the nail salon were so tickled to have them there that I went a little camera mad.

That scrub they do on your feet really does tickle a LOT!

I thought this was so cute! What typical girls, having themselves a little goss.

C knew exactly what she wanted done to her toes and she was not shy about it.

They were all ready for the bathroom by the time it came to getting their nails dried. I had to do a lot of talking and picture taking to get them to sit there LOL!

The guy who did their toes was so into this birthday party thing. He posed them for this picture.

They held hands all the way to the upstairs food court and jumped over all the dark tiles.

They were starved and Steve was asking them if they wanted just one fry or one chicken nugget. They were telling him that they wanted one of everything on the menu.

Gift time! Both her friends must know her well because she got crafty stuff and makeup.

I put together a little foam craft kit for them to make and fill with their goodies. I had a foam magic princess wand kit for each of them but we ran out of time. Who knew four hours wouldn't be enough?

I wanted them to pose for this cute picture but...

They wanted to pose for this picture.

Jewelry, Stitching and Cakes

I've finally organized my pictures somewhat and have made my creative album accessable by the public. It's kinda like my cross stitch gallery except everything else is in there too. Enjoy

Kid Art

G's first attempt at throwing a pot was dry last night so she painted it. I am very proud of the job she did both in the construction and the painting. She's taken it to school to give to her teacher.

For Christmas Ty received a huge book of drawing tips and tricks and although he was supposed to be going to sleep, apparently he was actually up in his room drawing on the only scrap paper he could find - the tag from a pair of new pants.

Aqua and Pearl Necklace

It's a Christmas gift that gave me such heartache while I was making it but it really turned out exactly as I'd imagined.

Painted Ornaments

E and I were hanging out in AC Moore recently where she picked out a few unfinished wooden cut-outs to bring home and decorate. I saw a few ornaments in the same category and it looked like fun (I do like to paint!) so I brought them home and here is the result.

Rainy Day Crafts

Well I may have spent a million dollars and the entire day at AC Moore but it sure was timely! Our weather here today is miserable so E and I have spent the day painting and gluing and cutting and stringing. What fun!

P.S. She dressed herself today. Didn't she do a fantastic job? Even her socks match!

Kumihimo Necklaces

I had so much fun making the cording for my ornament that I decided to use my Diva Cord Maker to make necklaces. My mother and I picked up this handy gadget at the last bead show we attended and it's so easy a four year old can do it. I made three necklaces this weekend but one of them went to a birthday party girl before I got a chance to snap a piccie so you'll just have to imagine the pink, sparkly, girlieness that was G's gift to her friend. The other two are mine and E's. I'm sure you can make out which is which.

Ornament Exchange 2006

I am so very proud of my ornament this year. Other than the fabric, I made every single part of this ornament by hand, including the cording. The design is called "Bright & Beaded" by Linda Bird and found in the January 2005 Stitcher's World magazine. I changed the colors because the original called for the most hideous versions of pinks and greens I've ever seen. The cord is made using the kumihimo method of braiding.

Here to the left is the front of the ornament and below is the back and the detail of the cording. Of course I hope my exchange partner likes what I've made but more than that I really enjoyed making it this year!

Now I am so in the Christmas mood.

Touching the Autumn Sky - WIP 2

This isn't as much progress as one might expect for a month's work but I did have another secret project I started and finished this month as well. October's WIP pic for comparison is here.

Purple Turtle

Just thought these were a couple of cute pics. After I set up the first row, she followed the pattern and completed the turtle with no help from me.

Peepbol Who Need Peepbol

We've had to give up daycare for now since we decided I would work a lot less than I had been. It was never supposed to be a full time job but unfortunately in the heathcare profession there is a high turnover and even though I'm a flex worker, I found myself being called in quite often. The house and my family were suffering for all the work so we have decided to cut back. Unfortunately that means daycare has gone from being expensive to being unaffordable.

E has gotten used to a lot of activity and tons of playmates so I think sometimes she's bored here at home with me. Yesterday she expressed a desire to paint with "waterpaint" so we headed out to the Rag Shop and bought some art stuff. I think she painted for four hours straight. That has to be the best five bucks I ever spent. When it was time to clean up for dinner, I looked through her sketchbook. She wrote this all on her own. I don't know how she knew to sound out the word but it's obvious to me I need to get her a "Learn to Read" book.

Pink Seed Bead Necklace

This was a new technique to me and one that I basically taught myself. It's really very sparkly in person. I guess I'll have to find something to wear with it. I don't think it's going to go with a tshirt.
